Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art1965-1977
(Nader Ardalan and Kamran Diba) Inspired by the informal, vernacular of desert villages of Iran, the museum was designed in 1965. It is environmentally adapted to its urban park context being built into the earth to achieve energy efficiency, while being self-effacing. The indirect illumination provided by Light Catchers provide a contemplative, yet dynamic interior space in which to view art, while a roof top café allows the visitor a place to enjoy a view of the central sculpture courtyard or beyond to the surrounding park. It is one of the first working applications of the theory of Critical Regionalism. Built in 1977.
